Celebrating Juneteenth and Our Commitment to DE&I

Celebrating Juneteenth
At Acadia, our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) shines through in our culture, and we continually seek out opportunities to strengthen it. In June, we’re celebrating Juneteenth, the date marking the end of slavery in the United States and the first new federal holiday in nearly three decades.

On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued ending slavery in the United States, news of their liberation finally reach enslaved people in Texas. The 13th Amendment, officially abolishing slavery, passed the same year, and in 1866, Juneteenth was celebrated for the first time. More than a century and a half later, in 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday.

Acadia honors this day of freedom. We believe our communities are stronger and our sense of belonging is greater when we listen, learn and understand the diverse perspectives that enrich our collaboration and unite us in our mission. We come to work every day ready to break down barriers and build inclusiveness. We share an ambition to bring vital new treatments and solutions to those who need them and our partnership ensures our success.

To foster an inclusive environment, Acadia champions Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), employee-created and -led groups based on shared experiences, goals and values. B.O.L.D. – Blacks Optimizing & Leading Diversity – is dedicated to creating an environment where Black employees can thrive and feel empowered to bring their authentic selves to work.

Through mentorship programs, speaker events, discussion on meaningful topics, and recruitment opportunities at colleges and universities, B.O.L.D. fosters a sense of community and ensures that opportunities for growth are accessible to everyone.

As we celebrate Juneteenth and recognize its enduring historic impact, we all have an opportunity to honor our differences, elevate our experiences and achievements, and strengthen our communities and the world we live in.

Happy Juneteenth!
