Position Summary
The Sr. Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing and engineering the company's foundational cloud and network platforms. The Sr. Cloud Engineer will lead and/or participate in assigned cloud infrastructure projects and will select and manage vendors for implementation and ongoing support in order to provide reliable, secure, and scalable cloud-based infrastructure technologies across the enterprise.
Primary Responsibilities
Designs, implements, and manages cloud infrastructure platforms including architecture, provisioning, security controls, and ongoing optimization across the enterprise environment.
Leads and executes cloud engineering projects including migrations, platform integrations, and new capability deployments in alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
Acts as a primary point of escalation for cloud infrastructure incidents that cannot be resolved by other members of the IT Infrastructure team or third-party service providers.
Provides engineering, administration, and lifecycle management for cloud-based services including identity, networking, compute, storage, and security tooling — either directly or via third-party service providers.
Performs and participates in implementation, monitoring, and audits of cloud infrastructure and leads mitigation of any risks identified within the enterprise to ensure the organization meets industry best practice security standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
Using various tools, techniques, and industry best practices, monitors cloud platforms throughout the enterprise for performance, capacity, issues, and faults, and reports findings to improve performance and correct any issues.
Ensures cloud platform performance is monitored, reported on, and maintained at the highest levels possible within the environment.
Investigates Root Cause Analysis of major failures, faults, or issues with cloud services and platforms within the enterprise.
Coaches and provides guidance to Network & Cloud team members on cloud engineering practices and standards.
Leads IT change management processes for cloud-related changes and manages cloud infrastructure vendor relationships.
Manages or assists with managing relationships with cloud and infrastructure-related vendors.
Supports and assists with IT projects and company initiatives as needed.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems and/or advanced vendor certifications with 5 years of relevant experience, or 7 years of progressive experience in IT in an enterprise environment in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
Extensive hands-on experience designing, building, and managing cloud infrastructure in a major public cloud platform (Microsoft Azure preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable).
Demonstrated experience with identity and access management platforms (Okta, Azure AD/Entra ID, or equivalent) in an enterprise setting.
Demonstrated experience identifying, quantifying, and mitigating risks in cloud and hybrid environments.
Key Skills:
Demonstrated experience with cloud networking concepts including virtual networks, VPNs, DNS, and hybrid connectivity.
Experience with endpoint management, device compliance, and security integration (Microsoft Intune/Defender or equivalent).
Experience implementing and maintaining cloud security controls, monitoring, and logging frameworks.
Experience in a regulated industry (pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or similar); familiarity with GxP or SOX compliance considerations in a cloud context is a plus.
Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator/Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent).
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Bicep, or similar).
Experience with SIEM, SOAR, or cloud-native security tooling.
Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture principles.
Good vendor management experience.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Must be willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally.
Physical Requirements
This role involves regular standing, walking, sitting, and the use of hands for handling or operating equipment. The employee may also need to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and maintain visual, verbal, and auditory communication in a standard office environment and while working independently from remote locations. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. This position requires the ability to travel independently overnight and/or work after hours as required by travel schedules or business needs.
In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for discretionary bonus and equity awards based on factors such as individual and organizational performance. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance, and location.
