Whether they are caregivers, patients or researchers looking for solutions, we know them for their passion, we value them for their perspective and we rely on them for their expertise. We call them “Mom.”
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate and honor the mothers in our lives – those whose stories inspire us and shape our narratives. At Acadia, we recognize the incredible contributions of moms in all their capacities, and we want you to meet three inspiring moms here.
A Mom’s Resilient Legacy
Sisters Kerry Miller and Tara Hastings reflect on their mother’s time with Parkinson’s disease in the story they share through Yours, Truly, a collection of patient, caregiver and advocate stories from the Parkinson’s community. Kerry and Tara remember how their mother’s light-hearted and kind spirit was a constant throughout her life.
“Mom was always seeing the glass half-full, regardless of what life throws your way. Her sense of adventure is kind of unmatched,” Kerry and Tara agree. “She was a light in everyone’s life. A light that’s still shining.”

Joy in Everyday Moments
Caroline is Minna and Oscar’s mom. Learning about Minna’s Rett diagnosis meant not only “all kinds of challenges ahead for us and ahead for Minna, but it also changed everything about the way we envisioned our lives to go,” Caroline said when sharing Minna’s story.
“At the end of the day, once all the responsibilities are done and we can just relax as a family, that’s her favorite time,” she continued. “I love being her mom, I love being part of her life, I love that she’s a part of our lives.”
“Moving on to where we are now, we realize that it’s going to be an amazing experience… Minna is stronger than any child we know.”

The Science of Caring
Louise Cosand, PhD, Associate Medical Director, Rare Disease, at Acadia and mother of Max, Lizzy and Vivian explains why supporting the rare disease community is important to her: “I want to use science to be able to unlock that individual and help the rest of the world connect with who they really are.”
The Acadia team is made up of people like Louise who approach each day with the mindset of a scientist, the dedication of a healthcare provider and the heart of a caregiver – just like moms everywhere. Happy Mother’s Day!
